Meet Stacie Hanson

Everyone has a chance to meet their vocation in their life. I met mine at 5 years old when writing a story for my mom. Since then, I’ve written stories for myself and others. Enchanting worlds, crazed horrific nightmares, out of this world strangeness, all of it is part of me. I am a professional graphic designer and digital marketer and yet I always return to the written word when I need to find my purpose. Indie publishing gives me deep sense of accomplishment for learning and growing with the changes of the markets. Connecting with readers and other writers remains a favourite reason why I love to work so closely with my own work. My writing style is characterized by rich world-building, compelling characters, and narratives that transport readers to otherworldly realms. But nothing is ever what it seems and nothing can ever be guessed with my books.

What works for Pacing… What doesn’t? – My Version

Read on Substack Writing creative fiction seems to have a variety of ways to go about the process. Some writers get it all out in one word-vomit, like a painter splashing their canvas to create. Others do it whenever they feel like it, and while the books might take...

When Creativity Feels Like a Chore: Permission to Rest

Find the post on my Substack! Back in the days before chronic illness, I found myself indulging in binge writing sessions. Much like a bad habit of bingeing on ice cream while watching the LOTR extended trilogy (because comfort movies need a partner), they’d leave me...

Mastering Point of View: Choosing the Right Perspective

My worst Point of View Journey yet happened just this past year (late 2024). “This is gonna be great,” I said, cracking open my notebook and staring at the lump of papers. I had to whittle this mess down to a short story but I loved this story idea. It worked well....

Kill Your Darlings (or Not): Editing Without Crying Yourself to Sleep

“Kill your darlings, that’s what it is called.” “I’m not killing my pets.” “No, I mean… it’s a writing thing.” “You don’t kill people with writing.” “There is a whole debate about that.” If you have been in the writing world for any time you might have heard the term...

Stuck on a Story? 3 Tips to Help You Get Unstuck!

Let me set the scene for you when you get stuck. Because it isn’t a matter of if. It is when. You are firing up your laptop, flexing your fingers because today is the end of your story. You’ve got one chapter left. You sit there, perky, cup of caffeinated beverage at...

Book Review: I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle

When it comes to dragons and books, I admit to burnout some years ago long before the era of “Have you read George RR Martin?!?!?” from other fantasy readers. Which isn’t unusual, many of us get tired of an element of a genre at some point in time. By the first season...

Does Your Dialogue Suck? 3 Ways to Fix It

“I’ve never sat down and stared at anyone before,” he said. “I am very sad about it.” “That’s bad,” she said, shockingly. “But I could try for the right human female,” said the man surprisingly. “Well, that’s great,” she said. “How sad are you anyway?” my bAD ATTEMPT...

Learn Better World-building with Mad Max: Fury Road & Furiosa

World-building, the kind that submerges you totally into the media you are seeing/reading/listening to, is one of those magical things that artists do and sometimes, you don’t even realize it. Done right, a world-building effort becomes seamless with the story. Done...

Boost Your Storytelling with Character Profiles

When it comes to making character profiles, did your insides curdle? Did you rage, in all your pantsing glory, raging that the writing gods have no call to demand such order to your life? Yeah. Same. So I have no battle to pick with pantsers because in many ways that...

Unlock Your Story’s Potential With an Outline

No need for an outline! Fly by the seat of your pants, child! I say to myself…infrequently these days but it used to be very consistent. I was proud of my seat of the pants writing. I thrived on my own dysfunction at one point and I fostered that mess onto my writing....
